S A Custance (b. USA)
My work is a product of my fumbling to understand and exist meaningfully in a consumerist democracy. Through portraiture I explore the human experience, whether the result present masses who are inseparable from one another, or one specific individual. While creating I find the work referencing issues of community, identity and personal history. I do not intend to present concrete convictions though, but rather I see the processes of making and viewing as a vehicle to move toward meaning. Having trained at a young age in classical drawing I then studied a range of media from printmaking to dyeing and weaving at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, refining my methods and approach to expression. In 2008 directly after completing a Bachelors of Fine Art I traveled to Berlin, Germany, returning in 2009 to base my studio in this city.
Education: Bachelors of Fine Arts, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Boston, USA, Art History and Fine Arts/Fibers with Departmental Honors, 2008.
S A Custance is offering a variety of fine art prints for sale in the ArtSlant Salesroom (here)
